The problem solving frameworks (PSFs) reported in the management and decision sciences literature are sourced from practical exercises of practitioners and/or improvement/revision of an earlier framework. The establishment of PSFs in these ways follows bottom up approach. Against this approach, this paper offers a top down approach of establishment of decision processes and problem solving framework by looking into the Pragmaticism’s scientific method (PSM). As far as this paper concerns, PSM as a problem solving framework was not fully examined in the realm of management and decision science. This paper presents the synthesis on abductive inference of PSM. The goal of the synthesis is to derive the decision processes and strategies contained in abductive inference. The synthesis has resulted in the identification of decision sub-processes of abductive inference namely invention, selection and entertainment. This paper posits that these three decision sub-processes are aligned with strategies formulated in other problem solving frameworks in practice. © 2015 American Scientific Publishers.
