| Summary: | The objective of this qualitative study is to explore the barriers to self-management among older people with hypertension and diabetes in institutional settings from the perspectives of both patients and health professionals in China. A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted using semi-structured face-to-face interviews involving eight older persons and ten health professionals. Thematic analysis revealed two main themes: 1) individual-related factors and 2) limited social support. Tailored interventions considering these multifaceted barriers can positively impact the quality of life and health outcomes for older individuals dealing with hypertension and diabetes in institutional settings. |
