The new trisubstituted triruthenium carbonyl cluster containing mixed P/As ligands namely Ru-3(CO)(9)(mu-Ph2P(CH2)(4)PPh2)(AsPh3) was prepared by a simple ligand substitution reaction between Ru-3(CO)(10)(mu-Ph2P(CH2)(4)PPh2) and AsPh3. The molecular structure and spectroscopic analysis were performed using a single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The crystal structure of Ru-3(CO)(9)(mu-Ph2P(CH2)(4)PPh2)(AsPh3) revealed a new example of trisubstituted complex with the general structure Ru-3(CO)(9)(L-L)(ER3) (where L-L = bidentate phosphine; ER3 = Group 15 monodentate ligand) containing a long chain of bidentate phosphine ligand. The two phosphorus of Ph2P(CH2)(4)PPh2 and AsPh3 occupy equatorial positions on adjacent metal atoms. The longest Ru-Ru bond length is strongly influenced by the bite angle of Ph2P(CH2)(4)PPh2 ligand as compared to the cone angle of AsPh3. The Hirshfeld surfaces analysis has revealed that the H center dot center dot center dot H contacts contribute to the largest contribution of the total Hirshfeld surface.
