IoT-Driven Sustainability: Advancing Urban Aquaponics with Smart Water Quality Monitoring

Aquaponics, a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics, is a sustainable approach to urban food production, but maintaining water quality can be challenging, especially for small-scale systems. This project developed an IoT-enabled water quality monitoring system to address this issue. The system...

Aquaponics, a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics, is a sustainable approach to urban food production, but maintaining water quality can be challenging, especially for small-scale systems. This project developed an IoT-enabled water quality monitoring system to address this issue. The system uses sensors, microcontrollers, and a mobile app to monitor key parameters like pH, temperature, and ammonia in real-time, providing automated alerts and remote control. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed that motor pump condition significantly impacts system stability, highlighting its importance in maintenance. The IoT system enhanced the efficiency and sustainability of urban aquaponics by enabling better water quality management. © 2024 IEEE.
