This study analyses research trends in the field of sustainable consumption between 2004 and 2024 through a bibliometric methodology and with the help of the visualisation tool CiteSpace. Visual analyses provide an objective basis for gaining insight into the development and current status of a discipline. The methodology of this research is based on the core literature on sustainable consumption research included in the Web of Science database, identifying research hotspots, key concepts and contributions from academic institutions, and proposing future trends in sustainable consumption based on the above analysis. The analysis results show that keywords such as behaviour and attitude, influencing factors and determinants, consumption and products, green and circular economy, climate change and policy management, and consumers and willingness to pay dominate the research. And the number of main research literature generally shows an increasing trend year by year, and the research institutions are concentrated in major universities and research institutes. The results of the visual analyses in this study reveal the evolutionary trends and possible future directions in the field of sustainable consumption, providing an important reference for academics and policy makers. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
