Identification of the differences in tactical performance indicators related to the ranking of men’s rugby sevens teams is essential. This study aims to characterize the tactical performance indicators based on team ranking among the teams who compete in the HSBC World Men’s Rugby Seven Series, Canada for season 2910–2020. The investigation is among the middle four teams (ranked number four to number eight) in the tournament. Fifteen performance indicators adapted by Higham et al. (2014) are used for data collection. The performance indicators variables are extracted from the Excel spreadsheet using the visual basic application of Microsoft Excel before being exported to SPSS version 26.0 with the significant value set at p ≤ 0.05. Based on the analysis, there is a significant difference (p ≤ 0.05) in passes, passes per minute possession and ruck among the middle four teams (England, USA, Fiji and Spain) in the HSBC World Men’s Rugby Seven Series, Canada season 2019–2020. It was shown that team rank significantly contributed to the differences in Selected tactical indicators outcomes among rugby sevens teams. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
