Summary: | Physical education (PE) has the inherent potential to promote growth equally in all learning domains to promote the “whole child” concept. However, most PE teachers prioritise psychomotor domains and design lessons on motor skills and tend to ignore cognitive and affective domains that impart values and life skills. In this regard, PE is considered a physical culture, and there is a misconception that PE only emphasises games and sports and has no academic prestige. Notably, the PE curriculum in Malaysia outlines the development of motor skills and social and cognitive exploration through physical activity, which has numerous positive aspects for daily life. There are several strategies to promote life skills and values through physical activity, and teaching pedagogies is important for PE teachers in enhancing life skills and values. Hence, the use of appropriate teaching pedagogies in PE may have great potential to instil life skills and values. In conclusion, acquiring values and life skills through physical activity will increase a person’s ability to manage themselves, their relationships, and their environment. At the same time, all parties related to education should play their roles to enhance the quality of teaching PE. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Koon Teck Koh, Tarkington J Newman and Muhammad Shufi Bin Salleh.
