Sustainable development, as a new paradigm, ensures that both the ecological demands of the Earth and human growth are taken into account to balance the needs of the present without risking the needs of the future. The factors that enable sustainable development in Malaysian small and medium enterprises are not well understood yet. By analysing the connections among technology and innovation capabilities, sustainability orientation, organisational culture, government support, and sustainable development, the current study aims to close this gap. Data were gathered on a sample of Malaysian food and beverage small and medium enterprises using a quantitative survey methodology. To analyse the collected data, Smart-PLS 4.0 was used. The findings of this study indicated that organisational culture, sustainability orientation, technology and innovation capabilities, and sustainable development were strongly correlated. Government support, however, had little impact. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by describing the organisational culture, sustainability orientation, technology, and innovation capabilities that enable sustainable development. Additionally, it may help organisations and governments build sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience in their operations for both domestic and international markets. © UMT Press
