The term Metaverse has recently gained popularity, primarily due to the rise of virtual reality and social media. Metaverse is a shared virtual environment that allows for real-time interactions between people and digital objects. As metaverse technology evolves, it is expected to have a significant impact on social interactions, reality concepts, and cultural norms. Understanding the implications of Metaverse necessitates a thorough examination of previous research on human-metaverse interactions. The goal of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis on Human Metaverse Interaction (HMI), with an emphasis on identifying key concepts, authors, journals, and trends in this emerging field. Primary bibliographic data is gathered from the Scopus database using keyword searches. The data is then quantitatively analyzed using bibliometric techniques in VOSviewer software to reveal patterns and trends. The analysis looks at publication volume, content themes, country affiliations and frequency of keywords to map the intellectual structure of HMI research. The study reveals rising trends in HMI research output, with key focus areas including virtual reality, augmented reality, and metaverse taxonomy. Gaps are identified in areas such as human-robot interaction and social virtual reality. The study sheds light on the current state of knowledge and future directions for HMI research. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
