Summary:The incorporation of the Internet of Things (IoT) signifies a vital advancement in revolutionizing conventional methods within the construction industry. This adoption substantially improves operational efficiency, safety protocols, sustainability efforts, and cost-effectiveness, marking a comprehensive modernization of the construction sector. Nevertheless, the Malaysian construction industry faces challenges in implementing cutting-edge IoT technology. Consequently, this research aims to assess current IoT implementation practices within the Malaysian construction industry, specifically from the perspective of Joint Venture (JV) contractors. Questionnaires were disseminated to G7 JV contractors in Selangor, revealing that most respondents possess a fundamental understanding of IoT and are currently integrating it into their construction processes. The results suggest that the implementation of IoT in the Malaysian construction industry is still somewhat restricted, primarily concentrating on integrating technologies like drones, Building Information Modelling (BIM), smart communication, and e-procurement. Nonetheless, these initiatives serve as platforms for sharing information, and improving the efficiency of construction activities, notably in tasks related to documentation, design, and monitoring of construction advancement. Recognising the benefits of IoT, the Malaysian construction sector must broaden its implementation of IoT by tackling obstacles related to its adoption.
