Optimization of Welding Parameters on Friction Stir Welding of AA5052 Thin Plate by Using Taguchi Method
A significant improvement in metal joining methods for high-strength aero-space aluminum alloys is friction stir welding (FSW). Welding parameters maximize efficiency, including tool rotational speed, travel of travel, and constant axial force that plunges during the entire process. Forcing may enha...

Welding parameters maximize efficiency, including tool rotational speed, travel of travel, and constant axial force that plunges during the entire process. Forcing may enhance the quality and dependability of products manufactured via the FSW process. This study focuses on optimizing the parameters process for FSW using the Minitab’19 software through the Taguchi method and design of experiment (DOE) methodology to determine the optimum parameters that can generate the best weld strength through tensile strength tests for aluminum alloys. L-9 orthogonal arrays (OA) from Taguchi methods were used to evaluate and figure out the best scenario and circumstance. By identifying and determining the significant welding parameters that influence the weld quality, the results were subjected to signal to noise (S/N) ratio analysis and depended on analysis of variance (ANOVA) that was generated through the Minitab’19 software. The most relevant variables for each welding effectiveness criterion, including tensile strength, were identified using ANOVA. To ascertain some particular noteworthy parameters, an ANOVA was performed. It has been determined that the ideal welding conditions to attain satisfactory tensile strength consist of the following: tool rotational speed at 550 rpm, travel speed of 550 mm/min, and constant axial force at 9 kN. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
