Summary: | This paper examines the role of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in fostering the internationalization of teaching and research competence among Chinese university educators, which is crucial for enhancing global competitiveness in higher education. With its focus on student learning outcomes and the reverse design principle, OBE offers a strategic approach to aligning training with the actual needs of educators. The study reviews the literature on OBE, its application in international training, and the concept of sustainable development in higher education. This study used qualitative methods to obtain answers to the research questions, and conducted semi-structured interviews with 27 teachers as the main data providers. It identifies key challenges faced by educators, such as insufficient support systems, a disconnect between training and practical needs, and an imbalance between teaching and research priorities. To overcome these, the paper suggests strategies, including strengthening inter-university collaboration, developing an international teaching model, and building a research-integrated teaching community. The integration of OBE into training programs is proposed to achieve sustainable development in higher education, emphasizing continuous improvement and data-driven refinement of training practices. © (2024), (Elite Scientific Publications).
