However, there is a lack of accurate and reliable methods for measuring the maximum strength of punches and the reaction time of boxers, particularly in Malaysia. This study presents an alternative method for measuring punch strength, with a focus on Malaysian boxers’ anthropometric performance and strength. The study aimed to overcome the limitations of existing methods, such as the lack of accurate anthropometric data for Malaysian boxers and the absence of readily available punching instruments with IoT capabilities. The punching analysis device developed in this study used Node-Red software for dashboard management, MySQL for the database, and Arduino hardware and Catia for 3D modeling and design. The performance of the punching machine was tested, and the accuracy of the new method was within a margin of error of 5% when compared to other instruments in the market. The study's findings provide valuable insights for coaches, trainers, and athletes, contributing to a better understanding of the mechanics of punches in boxing. The developed method is a reliable and cost-effective way to measure punch strength and reaction time, easily implemented in both training and competition settings. This study's results are essential for improving the training and development of boxers and designing new and effective training equipment for the sport of boxing. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
