Summary: | This paper presents the experimental and finite element analysis (FEA) results of a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) tensile test. The experimental tensile test is using the universal testing machine “Quasar 100” while FEA is using the ANSYS workbench software. The tensile test has two groups of specimens in which, each has five samples in it. Each group has a different orientation angle of + 45° and -45°. The FRP material which affects the angle orientation is the woven roving mat. In addition to woven roving mat, tissue mats and chopped strand mats are used. The polymer (resin) is used as unsaturated polyester (Norsodyne 3338W), and the catalyst is methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP). The stacking sequence of the fibres is nine layers of the same size (250 mm × 25 mm × 8 mm) in a flat bar that is balanced and symmetric according to ASTM D3039. The results were presented in the form of experimental and FEA results, showing that [A + 45° and AA + 45°] orientation has a higher tensile strength as a function of angle orientation. The results were significant for future studies and the implementation of the authentic boat. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
