Augmented Reality (AR) has significant potential to provide tourists with immersive tourism experiences by cohesively integrating virtual and real-world elements. This enables tourists to explore both physical and digital environments in a novel and engaging manner. To facilitate the integration and widespread adoption of AR in tourism, it is crucial to identify the user acceptance factors that guarantee the genuine value that AR technologies contribute to the user's experience. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to carry out a systematic literature review (SLR) to identify factors influencing AR acceptance in tourism. The findings from the systematic literature review (SLR) and the critical evaluation of articles retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science databases are outlined, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) framework for the review and assessment. The SLR process involved three distinct activities: identification, screening, and inclusion. Nine articles remained for evaluation after the procedure. In accordance with the research questions, two themes were explored which are the types of tourism settings utilizing AR and the factors influencing user acceptance of AR in tourism settings. The findings of this study can serve as a foundation for developing future frameworks or models that incorporate user acceptance factors for AR in tourism. © 2024 IEEE.
