Description
Summary:The motorcycle has been a very popular mode of transportation throughout the nation for many years. This could be clearly seen when numbers of registered motorcycles on the roads are increasing nearly every year. This large volume of ownership heightens the probability of motorcycle accidents occurring on the roads. To investigate further uncommon causes of these motorcycle road accidents, a questionnaire was developed to focus particularly on motorcyclists’ discomfort and muscle fatigue during prolonged riding. Three main phases were involved including reviewing previous related questionnaires, designing the questionnaire, and conducting pilot survey to evaluate the developed questionnaire respectively. The questionnaire consisted of four sections where each section contains several questions framed in various techniques for answering such as open-ended, multiple choices with check boxes and scale response. Related figures were also included to assist respondents in understanding the questions. A pilot survey was conducted to determine the time taken to answer all the questions and gauge their level of understanding. A commercial statistical analysis software, IBM SPSS Statistics Version 22, was used to analyze the data obtained from this pilot survey focusing on the value of Cronbach’s Alpha. Several amendments to the questions were subsequently improved to increase reliability. Finally, a set of final questionnaires both in Bahasa Melayu and English language were prepared for the full survey to further investigate motorcyclist discomfort and muscle fatigue due to prolonged motorcycle riding. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
