The transition towards green economy helps the nation in achieving a sustainable development and provides potential solution to the global environmental problems faced over the decades. In heading towards green economy, more investments can be observed in the development of green technology innovation and the increased use of green energy. By definition, green economy has the ability not just to produce clean energy but also allowing the development of technologies that enable cleaner production process of which reduces environmental impact and allow a sustainable use of natural resource (Chapple, 2008). In this chapter, we would like to present a discussion that focus on giving an overview of the development and progress of the transition towards green economy with the focus given especially on green energy consumption and production in Malaysia. A review will be provided on the Malaysian Government's roles in implementing policies and strategies to promote the use of green energy and encouraging the development of green technology innovation. Next, we will attempt to analyze the constraints faced as the nation turn towards green economy development. © 2025 Apple Academic Press, Inc. All rights reserved.
