In recent years, natural fibresFibre are gradually being used to replace synthetic fibresFibre as reinforcementReinforcement material in polymerPolymer composites due to their good properties and advancement to an environmentally friendly alternative. Nowadays, the usage of natural fibreFibre reinforced polymerPolymer composites has been widen into various engineering applications, especially sports equipment, construction, structural and automotive components. This paper focuses on mechanical properties of plant-based fibreFibre reinforced polyvinyl ether resin (PV), namely kenaf fibreFibre (KF) laminated composites. The effect of thermoplasticThermoplastics coating, i.e., polyethersulfone (PES), and nanosilica on the mechanical performance of KF reinforced polymerPolymer composites was investigated. The sample was fabricated using compression moulding process. Polyvinyl ether resin was used to bond the PES membrane and the KF. The interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) test was performed to determine the mechanical performance and durability of the thermoplasticThermoplastics coating materials. It was found that, the presence of nanosilica and PES layer enhances the strength and chemical resistance of the KF laminated composites. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
