Summary: | Quarry dust is a by-product of the quarrying process, where concentrated coarse aggregates, i.e., rocks and graniteGranite stones, are generated by the explosion of mountains and crushing of the stones. The fine size particles are classified as waste materials, which cannot be used for construction and pose a threat to environmental quality. Owing to this tiny particle size, quarry dust cannot be used to replace coarse aggregate in the production of concrete. However, it could be used to replace fine aggregate, usually made of normal sand or river sand, in the traditional way of concrete production. In addition, FibreFibre Reinforced PolymerPolymer (FRP) composites are also used as an alternative material for repairing and strengthening structures. This material makes products that are light, flexible, easy to shape, strong in tension and bendingBending, and elastic. Therefore, this study aims to determine the compressive strength of the mortar with graniteGranite dust (GD) as a replacement of sand. The mortar was then wrapped with Basalt FRP (BFRP) and exposed to sea water. The effect of BFRP wrap on compressive properties of mortar was analysed before and after soaking into seawaterSeawater for up to 4 months. Density and visual inspection of the mortar cube wrap with BFRP composite were also measured and documented.
