Focusing on the well-being of students is extremely important because it involves the aspects of their inner psychology. This study aims to gain an understanding of how elementary school students experience well-being. To collect data we conducted, in-depth interviews with six elementary school students who live in the area of Pahang, Malaysia. Analyzing these interviews revealed themes, including personal strengths, social engagement, and family support systems. These findings offer insights for professionals seeking to understand perspectives on psychological well-being and can help promote both mental well-being and academic success, in the face of life challenges. This discovery brings a great contribution to professionals in the field of education. Those in education should acknowledge the role that parental involvement plays in the academic journey. By understanding the impact of engagement, educators can encourage parents to be active in fostering open communication, involving them in the decision-making process and offering resources and support in learning activities. Additionally, educators can work with parents to create a nurturing and supportive home environment that can improve students’ academic achievement and psychological well-being. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
