Summary:Mineral, plant, and animal fibers are the three main categories of natural fibers, depending on the source. Animal fibers are popular in the fabrication of composites nowadays. It is essential to comprehend the characteristics of animal fiber-based composites, which are employed in biomedical applications, textiles, building, and automotive industries. Due to their advantages in sustainability, these fibers are replacing synthetic fibers in composite materials production. However, animal-based fiber-based composites are not extensively researched or examined, despite the fact that many natural fibers including wood, jute, silk, and kenaf are plant fibers. The various forms of animal fiber, their sources, availability, characteristics, and composites manufactured from them are reviewed in this study, along with their use. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd.
