This paper focuses on urban income mapping with a proposed technique of geospatial-based expert opinion in Section 8 Kota Damansara, Selangor. The study aims to estimate and map income status and patterns, especially in urban areas. A GIS database and based mapping of the income were created using spatial digitising and satellite imagery extraction. The secondary gross income data and an experienced expert opinion from Petaling Jaya City Council (PJCC) were obtained to provide the community income estimation and scenario. While datasets from the Social Housing or People's Housing Programme (PPR) and site visit observations were applied to support the estimated income results, The key finding revealed that the income status map and database were quickly updated compared to the existing map approach, providing significant benefits to the PJCC in understanding the socio-economic status of the Section community. The income map with dark red colours represents the lowest gross household income, which is mostly occupied by the PPR community. The study also found that the lower-income group has been most affected by employment and income losses. The GIS-based expert opinion income map has provided a holistic view of the local population, categorised into top-to-bottom income status. This alternative framework could be used for digital income geodatabases and geo-mapping as a cost-effective and time-saving technique. © 2023 IEEE.
