Summary: | The aim of this paper is to show the published research on library service sustainability using open-source software (OSS). This paper emphasises the highly cited literature, document type, author, year of publication, publishers, and the keywords used to discover the document from the different databases. In addition, this literature review examines the factors that contribute to the sustainability of open-source library automation and digitization software. The review analyzes various aspects of sustainability, including community support, user adoption, technical expertise, funding, software customization, integration with other systems, documentation and training, and governance and decision-making. The findings suggest that sustainability is influenced by multiple factors, and libraries must invest in resources such as funding, staff training, and community support to ensure the continued use and relevance of OSS. The review concludes by highlighting future research directions and recommendations for libraries to improve the sustainability of their OSS services. © The Author(s) 2024.
