Production and processing of animal products must carry out as per the standard protocol to avoid any kind of hazards. Unsafe food is still a big risk for billions of people across the globe. The efficiency and efficacy of food supply systems must be increased immediately. Traceability plays a crucial role to identify the animals and strengthen a food supply chain. Presently, traceability systems are built to collect and analyze data on animals and their products for their tracking. It not only ensures food safety but also helps providing a point of error during the recalling of a product. Tagging, marking, tattooing, retinal scanning, RFID, and barcodes are important identification and tracking technologies that work in the supply chain. However, many cases of poisoning are found every year due to a flaw in the supply channel. Therefore, there is a scope for improvement in tracing technologies via a comprehensive analysis and interventions of legal authorities. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
