Secured QR Scanner (SQR) based on Query Method
Quick Response (QR) codes have become an indispensable tool for sharing information, accessing content, and streamlining various processes. However, the widespread adoption of QR codes has intensified cybercrime in exploiting unsuspecting users. Cybercriminals exploit QR codes to redirect users to m...

However, the widespread adoption of QR codes has intensified cybercrime in exploiting unsuspecting users. Cybercriminals exploit QR codes to redirect users to malicious URLs. SQR, an Android application that detects and filters out potentially harmful QR codes in real-Time, effectively shielding users from malicious URLs, is proposed. SQR leverages a query method and the construction of a robust database based on GitHub. A scanned QR code is used as a query to the GitHub database to determine whether to direct to the intended URLS or send a warning message to alert that a malicious QR code has been detected. Positive response was observed among the residents citing ease of use and effective safeguards from vulnerability posed by QR codes. SQR has successfully mitigated cyber threats and fortifying digital security posed by malicious QR codes. © 2023 IEEE. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.
