Description
Summary:From the end of the last century until today’s 21st century, most countries worldwide have gradually stepped into the information age. The intermingling and influence of multiple cultures have prompted people to pay much more attention to fashion design. The taste and aesthetic value of dress are becoming more and more personalized. Visual pleasure is the common pursuit of consumers and designers, driven by such a situation, fashion design is also on the road of diversification farther and farther, from other art categories to seek inspiration has become new design ideas. Along with the emergence and rise of abstract painting in Europe and the United States in the 20th century, abstract art has gradually penetrated into architecture, sculpture, music, clothing, and other fields from the art of painting, fashion design and abstract art can be expressed through different ways to highlight the visual impact. The application of abstract art in fashion design improves the visual expression of clothing and it provides design ideas for the innovation of clothing personalization. This study firstly enters into the theme by stating the concept of abstract painting, and then it analyses the application of abstract paintings of Mondrian, Kandinsky and Picasso in fashion design by means of literature review and case study, stating their design concepts and creative techniques. Finally, this study takes Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionist paintings as inspiration, draws on his original paintings and imitates his painting style, and it applies them to clothing design. It aims to provide theoretical and technical support for the application of abstract painting in fashion design through practice. The research results show that applying abstract painting elements to clothing design can be not limited to traditional clothing materials, and using atypical clothing materials is conducive to broadening creative ideas. The borrowing of abstract paintings is also not to directly reproduce them on the clothes, but to consider the overall effect after applying them on the clothes, and then put in their own design concepts to create new works of art. © 2023, Scibulcom Ltd..
