This paper presents the finding of the effect of different conductivity of surrounding the proposed underwater antenna. The proposed antenna consists of helical antenna and a buffer medium. The axial-mode helical antenna acts as a base antenna, designed at 433 MHz operating frequency while the function of the buffer is to provide a matching layer between the antenna structure and the surrounding environment. The antenna performance is analyzed in terms of return loss, gain, radiation pattern and the surface current. Specifically, it is shown that the conductivity of buffer acts as a main contribution in designing an underwater antenna. The antenna is designed and analyzed using CST software. © 2023 IEEE.
