Summary: | The advent of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, IR4.0 has ushered in a new era of digitization that has benefited people all over the world and boosted economic growth by creating new business sectors. By 2022, it is predicted that IoT deployment in the healthcare sector will contribute roughly USD 158 billion, up from just USD 41 billion in 2017. Therefore, the purpose of this article was to provide an overview and explore the prerequisites for implementing the Internet of Medical Things, IoMT for the Malaysian healthcare sector. The Malaysian government, realizing the necessity, created the Digitization Strategic Plan 2021-2025, which includes the planning of ICT activities. The fundamentals of 5G network architecture in healthcare, including a few parameters, features, and performance measures of 5G technology, are only a few of the areas that have been brought up for discussion in this paper. Last but not least, there is an outline of the challenges and threats related to implementation, along with anticipated future research and development aimed at making the IoMT long-term sustainable. © 2023 IEEE.
