Summary: | It is important to find the characteristics that can make a lecturer conveys the knowledge effectively to the students. Knowing what are the characteristics of an effective lecturer, many university problems such as high failure rate, university dropout, violence and absenteeism can be solved. This study aims to analyze the undergraduates' view on the characteristics of an effective lecturer using descriptive statistics. The results reveal that treating students fairly is the most preferred characteristic that undergraduates chose for an effective lecturer. The second preferred characteristic preferred by undergraduates is being able to give clear explanation on the tough subject. These findings have some important implications for improving the quality of teaching and learning practice. The lecturers not only need to be masters in the subject matter, but also need to be approachable, friendly, caring and supportive to the students. © 2024 Author(s).
