It examines mechanisms and approaches on how HEIs in the Gulf contend with the ramifications of the pandemic. It begins with an introduction and overview of the effects of COVID-19 on the closure of some HEIs. The authors argue that HEIs in the Gulf need to put mitigation plans to address each COVID-related risks. By doing so, the universities will be better positioned to reduce the spread and impact of the pandemic. Moreover, it will assess how universities demonstrated their roles in preserving quality education, quality standards, and social responsibility across the GCC countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through close coordination with their governments, the Gulf HEIs need to promote the safety and welfare of the students, faculty, and staff while paying attention to their roles in implementing risk management to reduce, avoid, or eliminate the risks. The chapter concludes that many researchers may look at the post-coronavirus era by focusing on crisis and risk management. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, The Gulf Research Centre Cambridge, Reynaldo Gacho Segumpan and John McAlaney; individual chapters, the contributors.
