Description
Summary:Objective: To assess the prevalence of mental health issues among dental care professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic and identify potential factors that influence their mental well-being. Methods: A comprehensive search of various online databases was conducted from 2019 to December 2022. All cross-sectional studies in English that evaluated the mental health of dental practitioners during the pandemic were included. The quality of studies was assessed using NHLBI’s Study Quality assessment tools. Results: 37 studies were included, and most had fair quality scores. The findings revealed that 48.6% of dental care professionals experienced anxiety during the pandemic. Conclusion: This review highlights the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of dental care professionals. Preventative and psychological support should be provided to ensure the well-being and quality of care during and after pandemics. Impact: This review provides essential insights into the mental health of dental care professionals during the pandemic. It can inform the development and implementation of support programs, provide a basis for future research, and serve as a resource for dental care professionals, policymakers, and healthcare organisations. © 2023 UPM Press.
