Description
Summary:This paper describes the development of an experimental internet of things (IoT) platform which monitors vibrations and temperature of a computer numerical controller (CNC) milling machine. Processed data is sent to the web server NodeRED via Wi-Fi. The aim of the project is to design and utilize the platform which will be able to monitor machine condition for temperature inside the drilling area, sliding door and vibrations of the machines during drilling. The project is conducted by using a microcontroller which is connected to the sensors placed on a CNC milling machine. A microcomputer served as a Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) broker to connect with the NodeRED application via the internet. Condition of the machine can be viewed by using a mobile application or by accessing the NodeRED dashboard. When an irregularity of vibration is detected by the sensors, an email notification will be sent to the user thus giving an early warning for immediate intervention. © 2023 IEEE.
