Description
Summary:This paper lists the Burseraceae species recorded in Sungai Menyala Forest Reserve, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. Based on specimens deposited in the Herbarium of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (KEP) and Herbarium of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKMB), a total of 27 taxa were recorded. However, in the recent survey during the Scientific Expedition of Sungai Menyala 2022, only 13 taxa were found viz. Canarium apertum, C. littorale f. littorale, C. pilosum, C. patentinervium, Dacryodes costata, D. rugosa, Santiria apiculata var. apiculata, S. apiculata var. rubra, S. griffithii, S. laevigata f. laevigata, S. oblongifolia, S. rubiginosa var. rubiginosa and S. tomentosa. Santiria laevigata f. laevigata is a form commonly found as the medium to big tree. At the seedlings level, the following taxa, viz. Dacryodes costata, D. rugosa, Santiria apiculata var. apiculata and S. rubiginosa var. rubiginosa are common. However, the seedlings of Canarium patentinervium and C. pilosum are quite rare. Two species are endemic to Peninsular Malaysia, namely Dacryodes longifolia and D. puberula are found. Only a single stem of Santiria laevigata f. laevigata bear fruits during the recent survey. © 2023 Malaysian Nature Society. All rights reserved.
