Description
Summary:Sustainable construction is instilled in Malaysia's national agenda for environmental protection and a brighter future. Construction and Demolition Waste (C&DW) waste management has become a significant agenda for Malaysia, with 40% of wastediverted from landfills by 2020. A high waste generation rate will strain limited landfill space, deplete natural resources, and exacerbate illegal dumping problems, damaging the environment. Pressures rise to reduce waste and avoid linear practices in the construction industry. There's a need for a comprehensive model for efficient waste minimization. This model will adopt the renowned 3R Principle, the Circular Economy (CE) concept, with Design for Disassembly (DfD) application. This research aims to formulate a comprehensive model using the CE approach incorporating DFD and 3R principles throughout the construction cycle to reduce C&DW. The objectives of the study are to investigate the Construction and Demolition waste production and environmental impact throughout the construction cycle, to identify the possible implementation of Design for Disassembly strategies during the construction cycle. The combined approach of qualitative and quantitative methods - systematic literature review, questionnaire distribution, and review using AHP method is adapted to analyze the data. A holistic framework integrates all the concepts as a result of this study. © 2023 Author(s).
