Summary: | The role of polymeric, ceramic, and composite membranes for water reuse applications is thoroughly discussed in this chapter. Polymer materials have been widely employed for their numerous advantages in structure, morphology, physiochemistry, and filtration. Furthermore, due to their low cost, polymeric membranes are in high demand for wastewater treatment, particularly for potable reuse. On the other hand, ceramic membranes have generated significant interest due to their better chemical, mechanical, and thermal resilience compared to polymeric membranes, making them suitable for robust operating conditions and promising long-term performance. However, both materials have several drawbacks. Therefore, this chapter aims to provide an overview of water reuse treatment technology, fabrication techniques of polymeric, ceramic, and composite membranes, recent developments, and research on membrane applications for water reuse. Finally, the research gaps and future perspectives on the application of membranes for water reuse are also presented. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
