Summary: | Domestic or resident household water supply is very important for carrying out various activities. In Malaysia, domestic water supply is commonly drawn from the treatment plant managed by the public operators or state water companies. At each resident household, water meter is installed and applied by the public operators to monitor the usage and for billing purposes while homeowner takes over the responsibility of water usage after the meter. Residents had frequently reported about high water bill caused by unnoticed underground or inwall pipe leakage. Most of the pipework are hidden in walls or underground and homeowners may not always know that a leak has formed until they realize the rises water bill. Therefore, this project is to develop a domestic water piping leakage monitoring and detection system. The IoT based system is designed using an ESP32 microcontroller with Blynk application as all measured data are stored in Google sheets. YF-S201 water flow sensor is used to measure the water flow and water volume while a solenoid valve is used to control the water flow and water pressure. The system was installed at a two-story bungalow house and a few experiments were conducted. As a result, the system was able to identify leakage and an alert notification had been successfully sent to the owner via the Blynk notification. © 2023 IEEE.
