Description
Summary:Synthetic chemical pesticides are heavily utilized for crop protection, managing pests during food storage and in the household. The residual toxicity and poor biodegradability of chemical pesticides pose risks to human health and the environment. Thus, alternative pest management practices such as biopesticides are warranted for sustainable food production, food storage, and quality of life. Essential oil is composed of mainly volatile organic compounds and excellent active ingredients for biopesticides. This chapter discusses the current progress of essential oils biopesticides, the application in agriculture, food storage, and household pest management, and challenges in utilizing the essential oil biopesticides. © 2023 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
