This paper presents an investigation finding on the mechanical properties of BIB walls under compressive load. BIB refers to a new interlocking masonry unit design with multiple biaxial geometries of a groove and tongue to cater for a load. The multiple biaxial geometries allowed BIB to provide load resistance on the x and y-axis. In this study BIB unit was used to build a wall at the dimension of 1400 mm (L) x1500 mm (H) x 100 mm (T). The BIB wall was loaded with compressive load to evaluate the mechanical properties specific to compressive strength, flexural strength and Modulus of Elasticity (MOE). All data obtained on BIB wall properties investigated were then compared with normal cement sand brick walls. The properties of the BIB single unit were identified and present in this investigation. From all the data and analysis carried out, it is found that the utilization of BIB as a wall unit has successfully improved the compressive strength, flexural strength and MOE of the wall as compared to normal cement sand brick walls. The improvement level of the BIB wall to the cement sand brick wall was also presented. © 2023 Author(s).
