Abandoned projects negatively impact project owners and economic stability. Therefore, governments often take initiatives to restart the construction of abandoned projects. However, industry practitioners face difficulties in measuring the construction readiness of abandoned projects. The objective of this study is to identify decision criteria for assessing the construction readiness of abandoned projects. A semi-structured interview method was used to get feedback from contractors and project owners. Decision criteria that influence construction project stakeholders for restarting the construction of abandoned projects are documentation and physical aspects. The findings of this study can assist researchers and industry practitioners in developing strategies and guidelines for restarting the construction of abandoned projects. Advancements of enhanced strategies would help to address issues related to restarting the construction of abandoned projects. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge in identifying decision criteria for construction readiness among industry practitioners. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
