The relationship between the fire risk factors and the overall evacuation time was examined using a Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) analysis. A convenient random sampling technique was used to draw samples from 290 secondary school students. The strength of the relationship between the variables was assessed using a correlation test and the contribution of KAP level to the overall evacuation time was calculated using a multiple linear regression. The majority of students had extensive knowledge of the fire evacuation procedure. Despite the fact that most of the students agreed that attitude and practice were crucial to a safe evacuation, in reality, most of the students can be categorised as having only a fair attitude and experience. The knowledge component did not correlate significantly with either attitude or practice, whereas attitude and practice had a significant and strong correlation. While there was little correlation between the expected and actual values, the knowledge gap could account for the 2 percent variation in the total evacuation time. The total evacuation time would be shortened by 20.52 seconds for every point of knowledge gained. The results of this study can offer insights on the relationship between knowledge, perspective, and actual conduct among students that affects emergency responses. This study may be seen as a pillar for the development of a fresh method for evaluating threats during the evacuation procedure to take the place of traditional time observation-based evaluations during fire drills. © Penerbit UMT
