MD2 pineapple is a well-known exported fruit of the variety from the Ananas comosus, family. However, MD2 pineapples' grading is done manually. Error in grading the MD2 pineapples and delay the sorting task are the problems can occur during the respective activities. The objective of this study is to distinguish the grade of the MD2 pineapples using fuzzy expert systems approach. The grade can be categorized into A, B, C and reject. It is important to grade the MD2 pineapples precisely as it will affect the demand for the pineapple in domestic and export market. The fuzzy expert system method is preferable since it is user friendly and the rules that have being setup is approved by the experts. Besides that, the membership of each input and output is entered in the MATLAB software in order to produce the predicted output which is the grade of MD2 pineapples based on the input parameters (weight, ripeness and condition of MD2 pineapples) and the IF-THEN rules. The findings of this study include 250 pineapples that were analyze by comparing the grade of actual data of MD2 pineapple obtained from the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB) with the predicted grade from the MATLAB software, just shows 10% error. Therefore, fuzzy expert systems approach can be used in determine the grade as it shows 90% of accuracy between the grades of actual data of MD2 pineapple gotten from the MPIB with the predicted grade from the MATLAB software. © 2022 IEEE.
