الملخص:Hiking is one of the most popular activities in Malaysia, even though it comes with risks and dangers. It is important to be mentally and physically prepared and have the tools, skills, and basic first aid knowledge to avoid unwanted incidents. This study was conducted to determine climbers' preparedness before hiking Gunung Nuang. Questionnaire was distributed among climbers using a Google form through social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Whatsapp. 166 climbers completed the questionnaires. The result shows that high mean value for climbers' preparation specifically their physical and mental preparation, skills, tools and information. However, they were moderately prepared when it comes to preparing the first aid items. ANOVA analysis revealed a significant difference (p= 0.05) between physical and first-aid preparation when compared between socio-demographic data. Female climbers have higher mental determination and tend to use the services of mountain guides, while male climbers prefer equipment-oriented preparation. The more experienced climbers had higher levels of pre-hiking preparation. This study provides critical perspectives to help climbers and management better prepare for climbing activities and minimize climbing accidents. © 2023 Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia.
