Computer Simulation Model of the Safe-Commutation Algorithm for the Four Quadrant Operations of AC-DC Converter using SPMC

This work presents a new safe-commutation technique for the four-quadrant operation of a regulated rectifier employing a Single-Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC). This research seeks to design a new safe-commutation algorithm for four-quadrant operation in order to prevent voltage and current spikes ind...

This work presents a new safe-commutation technique for the four-quadrant operation of a regulated rectifier employing a Single-Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC). This research seeks to design a new safe-commutation algorithm for four-quadrant operation in order to prevent voltage and current spikes induced by inductive loads. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) was utilised to compute the switch duty ratio in order to generate the output. The proposed safe-commutation technique generates energy dissipation channels, allowing for the complete dissipation of inductive energy. With the proposed safe-commutation technique, it can solve the commutation problem of the four-quadrant operation of a controlled rectifier using SPMC, thus, capable to protect the power device from the over-voltage and over-current. A MATLAB/Simulink (MLS) computer simulation model was constructed, and selected results are presented to analyse and validate the proposed technique. © 2022 IEEE.
