Description
Summary:This chapter provides an understanding on the importance of the Halal meat market for both local and international consumption. Significantly, this chapter incorporates the procedures related to the cross-border handling of the supply chain for Halal meat in Malaysia, particularly concentrating on the import trade activities and relevant agencies. Notably, the recent scandal of the meat cartel needs to be further evaluated, specifically its issues and challenges, including its impact on the local producers and consumers at large. Consequently, the incorporation of Islamic business ethics needs to be adhered to towards enhancing the transparency and accountability of the Halal integrity within the supply chain environment. As a result, a framework of a more robust and sustainable structure of the Halal ecosystem, especially in the supply chain is vital, towards transforming Malaysia as the world’s Halal focal point. Undoubtedly, reaching the international market is the greatest quest for many business owners and local industry players, as the world Halal market is very large, due to its market size. © 2022 selection and editorial matter, Nor Aida Abdul Rahman, Azizul Hassan and Hajjah Zawiah Abdul Majid; individual chapters, the contributors.
