Summary: | Hydroponic is an effective solution introduced at urban houses as it conserves water and space. The purpose of this project is to design and fabricate a Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) hydroponic system for urban domestic residents to grow green leafy vegetables. The best concept design of the NFT hydroponic system was modelled in solid three-dimensional (3D) by using SolidWorks software. The structural and flow simulation were analyzed to determine the outcome predictions for such design. The project fabrication method mainly uses UPVC pipe and other local material for the ease of assembly. The project prototype occupied an area of 0.48 m2 with the dimension of 1.3 m height, 0.6 m width, 0.7 m length, and with crop capacity of 18 plants. The temperatures, EC, pH, relative humidity, plant length and weight are among the various parameter that been analyze in the project. Plant growth and other parameters showed that the NFT hydroponic system was a success in terms of the design for urban houses and the output on plant productivity. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
