Summary: | Applications of DC -DC converters become important especially with renewable energy systems. PI controller is used to control the desired performance of the converter. The determination of ideal parameter is the key issue for this controller. Intelligent approaches are explored to enhance the PI controller parameter by using the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm to achieve an optimum performance from the buck converter. The buck converter model with PI controller and ABC algorithm is developed using MATLAB/Simulink. The Integral Time-weight Absolute Error (ITAE) criterion is integrated into the model to isolate the error signal from the buck converter output and to be optimized by the ABC optimization technique. The performance of the proposed ABC algorithm on the buck converter are analysed on the desired voltage output, settling time, rise time, overshoot, and steady state error. The results show the ABC algorithm overcome several aspects compared with other selected optimization technique. © 2021 IEEE.
