Summary: | The formation of the Geomagnetic Induced Current (GIC) from the underground becoming a threat to the electrical appliances due to its natural form of current that flows from the underground to electrical appliances. The measurement at the neutral point of the 275kV transformer has been conducted to identify the existence of the GIC from the underground. The measurement is conducted at the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), KUL South, Taman Pelangi, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur with geographic latitude and longitude (3° 4' 37"and 101° 39' 55") by using HIOKI measurement equipment. Based on the measurement conducted, there are two categories of the storm which existed during the measurement which is a moderate and weak storm. The preliminary analysis on the level of the GIC is conducted based on the data from OmniWeb, local magnetic data acquisition system (MAGDAS) data, and the measurement data at the neutral point of the transformer. The estimation of the GIC is calculated based on the local MAGDAS data. The preliminary examination of the GIC in the Malaysian Power Network is necessary to determine the GIC's threshold limit. In a pattern, the estimating process displays the similarities between the measured and calculated GIC. © 2021 IEEE.
