Low degradability level and abundance in solid waste, as well as an increasing the required number of landfills, are the concerned arise from plastics waste management. In this respect, the need to recycle plastic is currently important. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the potential recycling three types of food packaging plastic wastes (denoted as BPPWL, JPPWL, and IPPWL) to be a liner material which could be used in civil engineering. The plastic waste liner was prepared by heating several layers of the similar plastic waste under the applied pressure of 476 Pa and temperature of 150ºC. Tensile analysis depicted plastic waste liner which fabricated from a single layer of plastic unable to meet the requirement of a commercialized liner, known as geomembrane. On the other hand, the tensile strength greatly increased when the plastic waste liners were fabricated from several layers of plastic (multilayer) in which the yield strength achieved to more than 6 kN/m. Yet, the multilayer liners are more brittle or low deformability than the single-layer liner. Based on the tensile analysis, it can be deduced that the multilayer liner of BPPWL, JPPWL and IPPWL are possible to replace geomembrane liner specifically when it is being used in the construction of railway tunnels and road but not the liner in the landfill application as higher tensile strength is required. © Institute of Advanced Scientific Research, Inc..
