Summary: | The blog scenarios in Malaysia had expanded since year 2008 and generally media consumers have been using new media as a substitute media to obtain information that they could not reach through the mainstream media. Obviously, blogs have provided a huge number of new information and is beyond the expectation of the media users. The disclosure had also been made by bloggers to present information which is much awaited by the consumer society. Blogs have also been used as a medium to convey information rapidly and unrestricted to the people. This research paper examines how far bloggers in Malaysia have been practicing the accountability of all the writings posted in their blogs. A qualitative approach through an in-depth interview has perpetrated upon two blogger groups consisting of different political ideologies. A total of eight (8) prominent bloggers in Malaysia was selected as informants to the study. The results showed that blogs have successfully opened a new substance to the society in terms of conveying information. The existence of laws that can be associated with bloggers does not affect their desire to continue expressing opinions freely to the public. Apart from that, bloggers were aware and have set their accountability at the highest level and will always be responsible for any potential harm caused through their writing. The bloggers are always alert in ensuring disseminated information credibility in the acceptance and in response to the societal needs. © 2018, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Press.
