Understanding adolescents premarital sexual decision making: A preliminary study

In Islamic Societies, sexuality is a very sensitive topic for many Muslims especially related to sexual intercourse before marriage. This study intends to understand perception of adolescents Malay girls towards premarital sexual decision-making. This preliminary qualitative study was carried out on 2 females who resided in one of the government rehabilitation centres in Klang Valley. Participation in the study was voluntary by obtaining informed consent from both respondents. Data analysis from this preliminary study shows that understanding adolescents premarital sexual decision making can be categorized into two main factors; personal and social influences. Since sex out of wedlock has major negatives consequences such as sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancy as well as emotional and psychological difficulties therefore, this study aims to determine factors that may lead to sexual behaviour among adolescents. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers.
